If being still feels hard, if meditation makes you If being still feels hard, if meditation makes you squirm or you feel like you always need to be doing something - this post is for you.

How does a nervous system get wired for urgency?

It often begins in childhood, shaped by the emotional tone of your caregivers and how they responded (or didn’t) to your needs.

If their energy was anxious, inconsistent, distracted, or overwhelmed, your system may have learned early on that safety wasn’t guaranteed unless you were the one constantly scanning, fixing, or adapting.

When safety feels like it’s entirely on you, urgency becomes a survival strategy.

You learn to move fast, over-function, stay busy.

Because slowing down feels dangerous.

Your body equates stillness with vulnerability.

And maybe your childhood was good, but you still can’t relax?

That’s because urgency can also be a response to relational trauma (or other chronic stressors and trauma) from unsafe or invalidating experiences with partners, friends, or work environments.

Places where you were made to question your worth, your voice, or your right to rest.

The good news?
What was once learned can be unlearned.

You can train your nervous system to notice safety.
To just be.
To feel at home in your body and your relationships again.

This is somatic healing.
Returning to the body.
Relearning safety.
Coming home to yourself.

If you’re not overwhelmed by the state of the wo If you’re not overwhelmed by the state of the world, you’re not paying attention. 

I’m not always all love and light. If I were to be honest. I am angry. I am sad. I feel helpless. 

This is my protest. My prayer. My resistance - expressed and felt in my body.

Being fully in your body and fully alive is both a privilege and a curse.

I shake in resistance.

I shake for the people of Palestine.
For the people who came to this country chasing a dream, only to be exploited by a system built on their backs.
For the ones who pick our food, clean our homes, cook in our restaurants, and care for our yards, the hardest working people I know.
For the animals, voiceless and commodified.
For the Earth herself, choked and burning.

I shake to not look away.
I shake to stay human.
I shake because my nervous system wasn’t built to hold this much grief and rage. The only choice is to stay fully aware, eyes wide open, letting it move through.

And then I cry.
I cry, knowing my privilege even as I grieve.
I cry, not to cleanse it away, but to feel more deeply rooted in what matters.

These times call for full presence and full care.
Take care of yourself so you can show up for those who need you.

This is nervous system work as revolution.
Somatics as resistance.
The revolution will not be numbed.
The revolution will be felt.
The revolution will be embodied.
