What protected you as a child might be keeping you What protected you as a child
might be keeping you stuck as an adult

Many people don’t realize
how much their childhood still lives in their body

The constant scanning for danger
Staying quiet to avoid outbursts
Being easy so you don’t upset anyone
Overachieving so someone notices your worth
Taking care of others as the parentified child
Normalizing chaos
Pushing away emotions
Not prioritizing your own wellbeing

At some point, these made sense

They helped you feel safe
They helped you feel loved
They helped you belong

And your body learned…
this is how we survive

But the body doesn’t automatically update just because your life has changed

So you might still find yourself
overgiving when you’re exhausted
overthinking when nothing is wrong
bracing when you’re actually safe

Not because something is wrong with you but because something once was

This is why healing requires more than awareness and is often the root of so many physical and emotional symptoms

You can understand your patterns
and still feel stuck in them

Because they live in the body

Healing happens when you begin to create safety from within

When you meet these patterns with compassion instead of trying to fix or fight them

Because shame keeps the pattern alive
but compassion creates space for change

When you slow down enough to listen to what your body has been holding

This is the work

Inner child healing
Somatic support
Rebuilding trust with yourself

Not forcing
not pushing
not bypassing

But softening
noticing
and allowing your system to learn something new

We are safe now, we don’t have to do this anymore. 

And over time what once protected you
no longer controls you

At 38, my body started to feel like it was breakin At 38, my body started to feel like it was breaking down.

My anxiety and depression were getting worse.
My sleep was wrecked.
I was waking up drenched.
My hips hurt constantly.
My labs were shifting.
Iron low. Cholesterol rising.
Heavy cycles. Brain fog. Fatigue.

So I chased each symptom separately.

Different appointments.
Different tests.
Different solutions.

Almost 10 years later, I understand what was happening.

These were not random problems.

They were signs of perimenopause in a body that needed different support.

Perimenopause is systemic.

Estrogen fluctuations affect neurotransmitters, iron regulation, cholesterol metabolism, inflammation, pain perception, and stress resilience. When one shifts, everything shifts.

Most people don’t realize they’re feeding the wron Most people don’t realize they’re feeding the wrong wolf.

This morning in meditation, I was reminded of the well-known parable often attributed to a Cherokee elder about the two wolves inside us.

Inside each of us live two wolves.

One feeds on fear.
Comparison.
Resentment.
The old story that we are not enough.

The other feeds on courage.
Compassion.
Self-trust.
The quiet voice that says, choose differently.

In the story, a child asks which wolf wins.

The elder answers:
The one you feed.

Not once.
Not in a big moment.

But every day.

Through your thoughts.
Your reactions.
Your self-talk.
Where you place your attention.

This is not about toxic positivity.
It is about awareness.

And awareness changes everything.

So today — I invite you to pause from time to time and ask yourself….
