If you’ve been wanting to invest in your health but aren’t sure whether your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can cover nutrition counseling, hormone support, gut health services, or mind-body work, the good news is that in many cases, it can.
Most people don’t realize that FSAs aren’t limited to doctor visits or prescriptions. They can often be used for supportive, preventive, and integrative care when it’s tied to a documented health need. This means many of the services I offer—nutrition guidance, gut healing support, hormone education, stress and mood support, and somatic mind-body work—may qualify for reimbursement with the right documentation.
Below is everything you need to know.
What FSA Funds Can Cover
FSA accounts can reimburse services that are considered medically necessary to help treat or manage a health condition. While “general wellness” isn’t covered, anything your doctor recommends as part of a treatment plan often is.
This may include support for:
- Hormone shifts and perimenopause symptoms
- Digestive conditions like IBS, GERD, SIBO, or colitis
- Chronic inflammation
- Anxiety, stress, and mood changes
- Sleep disturbances
- High cholesterol, prediabetes, or metabolic changes
- Weight challenges tied to a health issue
- Stress-related physical symptoms (tension, headaches, fatigue)
If your doctor believes that nutrition counseling or nervous-system-based support could help you manage these issues, your FSA may cover it.
What You Need: A Letter of Medical Necessity
The key to using FSA funds with me is a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN).
This is a short form signed by your doctor, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or (depending on the plan) your mental health provider. It simply needs to state:
- Your diagnosis or health concern
- Why the service is recommended
- The type of service (nutrition counseling, wellness coaching, stress/somatic support, etc.)
- How long the support is recommended (for example, 3 months)
Your provider doesn’t need to share anything personal or extensive—just a brief acknowledgment that this type of care supports your health.
Once you have the LMN, you pay for sessions as usual and submit the receipt to your FSA for reimbursement.
What You’ll Receive From Me
After each session or program payment, I can provide:
- A detailed receipt or superbill
- My business name and contact information
- Date of service
- Description of the service
- Fee charged
- Your name
Your FSA administrator handles the rest.
Services That May Be Covered
Every FSA plan is different, but with an LMN, clients have successfully received reimbursement for:
- Somatic or nervous-system-based stress support
- Hormone and midlife wellness guidance
- Gut healing protocols and nutrition plans
- My Total Mind-Body Reset program
- My Restore & Rebalance somatic series
- Certain supplements (depending on the FSA plan)
If a doctor has noted that you need help with digestion, hormones, inflammation, mood, or stress, your FSA may recognize this as a legitimate health expense.
Why This Matters
So many women hold off on seeking support because it feels financially out of reach. But when your FSA can help cover sessions or programs, it becomes easier and more accessible to invest in your health.
And in this season of life—when hormones shift, stress accumulates, digestion changes, and your body asks for more support—you deserve care that actually addresses the root causes and helps you feel better.
